Monitor Body-Mind Wellness

Monitor your body, mind, and self-wellbeing

Staying healthy after menopause requires awareness of both physical and emotional changes.

Keep track of how your body is feeling

Weight gain, muscle loss, fatigue, and mood changes are common. Nutrition and exercise become more essential than ever.

Nutrition

Prioritize:

  • Minimally processed foods
  • Adequate protein
  • Healthy fats
  • Fruits & vegetables
  • Slow-digesting carbohydrates
  • Plenty of fiber
  • Hydration
  • Portion awareness

Supplements can be useful, but foods should come first. Always discuss supplementation with your healthcare provider.

Exercise

Physical activity helps maintain muscle, bone strength, cardiovascular health, and emotional balance.
Types of recommended exercise:

  • Aerobic: walking, jogging, swimming, biking, dancing
  • Weight-bearing: walking, running, strength training
  • Moderate resistance training: preserves bone mass and prevents fractures

Always consult your provider before starting a new program.

Sex after menopause

Interest in sex may shift. Lower estrogen can cause dryness or discomfort, but options like lubricants, estrogen creams, or vaginal estrogen exist.
If you're still menstruating sporadically, continue using birth control until menopause is confirmed.

Mental health during menopause

Menopause often coincides with other major stressors: demanding careers, teens or specialneeds children, aging parents, divorce, health challenges.

Coping tools include:

  • Sleep
  • Exercise
  • Therapy
  • Mindfulness
  • Relaxation techniques

CBT (Cognitive Behavioral Therapy)

CBT is proven to help with:

  • Hot flashes
  • Night sweats
  • Sleep disturbances
  • Anxiety and depression

It typically lasts 4–6 sessions and is effective in group, self-help, and online formats.
